Master of Arts

The Master’s course in Social and Cultural Anthropology is a two-year study program. Students will get acquainted with the most important anthropological theories, methods and ethnographies, covering a wide range of topics. The ability to critically analyze and reflect on the dynamics and specificities of societies and cultures in a global context, especially regarding the challenges of the 21st century, constitutes the core principle underlying this program.

Master of Arts

Duration: 4 semesters

Credits: 120 ECTS

mid June - 15 July (Non-EU) / 15 Sept. (EU)

A detailed study of local life in a particular society or delineated social environments provides the methodological entrance to an in-depth understanding. For this, students design and plan their own study project which takes place over the full 3rd semester, often in combination with an internship in a relevant organization, e.g. an NGO, a school, a cultural or political organization.

The M.A. degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology offers a variety of employment perspectives. Since the program aims at linking theoretical and practical knowledge, students can develop critical and innovative perspectives that are needed in a variety of different professional fields such as: museology and heritage studies, development cooperation, migration and intercultural communication, human-environment relations, public relations, global and local education and much more.
