Cultures of the Global South

Master of Arts

This Master’s program investigates contemporary cultures of the Global South with a focus on social and political dynamics and from the vantage point of comparative transregional studies. You will deal with thematic complexes such as colonialism and postcolonialism, migration and mobility, transculturalism and globalization. Among the disciplines involved are literary, cultural and media studies, along with cultural anthropology, education, and other related social sciences.

You will become acquainted with the significant cutting-edge research approaches within the literatures and cultures of the Global South and develop the skills necessary for undertaking your own independent research. This interdisciplinary program also includes a practice component and encourages students to  benefit from the vibrant international network of partner universities during joint events, summer schools, and a semester abroad. Graduates take position in journalism and public relations, cultural management, intercultural communication and education as well as international development organizations, consultancies, and businesses.
